The
evening of August 7, 2007 at Whatever-They're-Calling-It-This-Year-Park
in San Francisco, Giants legend Barry
Bonds hit his 756th career home run to become the all-time
Major League Baseball home run champion. The ballpark was sold out,
fans were deliriously hoping to see history, and MoMo's
across the street was packed serving up their signature cocktail, the
Barry
Bomb (uhhh, do you drink it or inject it?). While fans in the park
were hoping to catch that
million-dollar ball, more than a thousand crafty, non-admission-paying
pipe dreamers and would-be opportunists had assembled outside McCovey
Cove -- on land and in water -- with an array of contraptions to snag
that ball. This photo gallery chronicles their hilarious efforts -- and
also contains a photo taken in the park capturing Barry's record-breaking
home run (scroll down and click on the 47th little photo there along the
right!). Fans got to be there for baseball history, the Giants claimed
a storied landmark, and all the kids there were so excited they can't
sleep for a week. Now that's something that deserves an asterisk!
